It is quite possible that we may see the return of classic Ford car names because the blue oval has filed these names with the trademark offices in Europe in December 2021.

It seems Ford has expressed an explicit interest in using classic names with an established market appeal on modern vehicles.

Numerous manufacturers have started bringing back classic names along with retro designs to appeal to both older and newer drivers. Fords first attemptwas with the Mustang Mach-E which did really well and so it looks like the company may be looking to use its familiar past names to ease customers into their new EVs.

The Bronco is also a name Ford has brought back to life along with the recently-introduced Maverick small pickup, which was previously used by Ford in the ’70s.

Even if Ford does decide to use these names, it’s not certain if they’ll be electric or fuel based vehicles but chances are most will be electricbecause the automaker wants to be all-electric in Europe by 2030.

It would certainly be nice to see Capris, Escorts, Orions and Cortinas back on the roads again.

Update On The Trademark

According to the UK Intellectual Property Office’s online database, there are several active trademarks for the “Ford Fiesta” name in the United Kingdom. Ford Mustang E-Mach On Trail With U.K Police

The car industry has begun to shift towards the E.V. (Electric Vehicle) movement. It is an effort to go green & it’s no surprise that Police forces are looking to add E.V.’s into their inventory. Many suspect that Police forces all over the world will eventually replace their patrol cars entirely with electric vehicles. Switching to E.V.’s comes with its own sets of advantages and disadvantages. Whilst most changes are positive, there is one elephant in the room that Ford are looking to address as quickly as possible.

Suggested Improvements

The range on the Ford Mustang E-Mach is approximately 211 miles. This is fine for its purpose. However the accessories such as sirens and blue lights do not run from the cars battery pack. The accessories run from a conventional 12 volt battery which can be a big limitation. It is important for Law Enforcement officers to have access to their cars accessories at a moments notice, whenever it may be needed. To circumvent this the Mach-E currently uses low power LED lights but Ford have said they would like to look into other possibilities. The number one suggested change for now is a higher capacity transitional battery. Whilst the current accessories work well, Police noted they would want to add extra functionality to their cars. For this reason the extended battery is the main improvement sought after to remove the limitations it currently has a patrol car.

Global Appeal

Ford already supply a lot of American police forces with their hybrid patrol cars. Many speculate that if the Mach-E is satisfactory in its U.K. trials that Ford will attempt to adapt the car for the Americans.The Ford Mustang E-Mach is a well received car amongst everyday drivers. A model with an extended battery (which they plan to use in future with the patrol cars) set the record in July for most efficient energy usage. The car comes in standard AWD and also in RWD. Capable of 0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds.

Ford India

Ford  has become another big auto manufacture to pull out of India. India is dominated by smaller & cheaper Asian cars, Ford has struggled to make an impact. Ford decided to avoid further losses they are to shut down factories in India and stop their manufacturing over there. The estimated cost of this decision lies around the 2 billion dollars mark, that’s a big amount of money to lose. However with the new focus being electric vehicles, Ford decided to take the loss head on rather than allow the factories to be a constant source of draining finances.

India Car Market

Ford only claims a 2% market share in India. This is far below what the manufacturers had hoped. Many big auto manufacturing factories were opened up in India by big named companies. There was speculation that India would become the third most lucrative car market following the China & the US. In reality this never happened, India still trails Japan & Europe in car sales, and considering the dominant cars are small & cheap Asian vehicles (namely Suzuki and Hyundais), Ford and it’s 2% market share did not stand a chance. Many wonder how this will reflect on Indias prime minister and his “Make India” campaign. The head of Fords Indian facility has this too say:

“Despite efforts, we have not been able to find a sustainable path forward to long-term profitability”

The Future Of Ford

After pulling out of India and Brazil, it clears that Ford is cutting out expenses and losses. Most would say it’s just good business practice , which it may be. However in the past many manufacturers would fight over having a larger global presence even if that meant turning a loss. Recently the new E.V. movement has forced the hand of many manufacturers. The truth is that these companies have to produce E.V.s to stay in business for the foreseeable future. As we talked about in previous articles, this is no cheap endeavour, so it makes sense for Ford to pool all of its resources into something that guarantees a chance of staying in Business.

The World Of EV

Many first world countries are pushing for electric vehicles and more sustainable solutions. But this leaves large portions of the world behind where the infrastructure does not support having charging stations dotted around. Some of these places don’t have a grid to support this either. These areas are still using combustion engines and do large amounts of transport with big diesel engines in trucks and boats. The problem lies that many of these places have huge populations and the budgets do not exist for the EV movement to take hold. This is problematic since the EV movement is only as viable as how many people can support it. With big parts of the world unaccounted for it is difficult to justify a large manufacturer like Ford pulling out of India. We need more large scale manufacturing around the globe so when these car makers make the jump to EV the countries they occupy will have a better chance to adopt the EV movement. Manufacturers on the other hand tend to move their plants to where they can operate cheaply and sell in large numbers. They are businesses after all. With this in mind it can become clear that certain car producers are only participating in the EV movement to sell products and not for concern of the environment. This calls into question their process of putting these cars together. Having an electric motor is one thing, but having a manufacturing process that is not “green” can be just as harmful as combustion engines.

Fords New Concept Mindfulness Car

At the Munich Motor Show Ford unveiled some very unique ideas. The mindfulness car is currently in its in concept phase. Ford want this car to help users be more relaxed on the road. Mark Coleman created meditation guides for the car and the following to say about the new car:

“Mindfulness helps people to be more focused, calmer and achieve greater clarity – and when you’re behind the wheel, this can help make you a better driver”

What features could a car have that could possibly help with relaxation? Well Fords Mindfulness car has a large portfolio of gadgets for exactly that. We’ll start with hygiene and cleanliness, since it’s hard to relax if your car is a mess. The car sports a feature called “Air Purge”. This can be activated from your key-fob and will shoot a burst of clean air when the driver gets in. The air is passed through filters protecting from dust, smog, allergens, bacteria sized particles and even a UV diode with the potential to kill viruses. So now we know you’ll be clean and safe in the mindfulness car, but how will you relax?

Automatic climate control to ensure the temperature inside the vehicle is always perfect, matched with ambient lighting. The seats keep track of your breathing and heart-rate, which are displayed to you on screen and the car uses this knowledge to make guesses on your stress levels. The car has speakers tailored into the headrests, and they play ambient music depending on your location, such as a drive by the seaside will sound very different to a rocky climb through the mountains. The cars head rest also doubles as a neck rest to allow for the “power nap” feature which is where the car creates room for a napping area by reclining the chairs. Finally the car also features a yoga setting on screen, however we have to await more information on this.

Do you hope the Ford Mindfulness Car makes it to production? There have been many mixed reviews and thoughts about the project.

We live in a world where stress is mounting constantly. So there’s a large group of people advocating for a concept like this, but in reality how much can this car really calm you down? The flip side to this argument from those opposed to the concept call the car “gimmicky” and not worth the money spent.

Will The Car Make It To Production?

We’re unsure if you’ll ever see this Ford out on the streets. If it is a serious production then it will likely be a limited run and only used in PR and sold in small quantities. Others are suggesting this car is attempted to break into the public transport sector. With its relaxing and cleaning features it would make for an excellent taxi vehicle and the technology could be adapted to buses and other larger public transport vehicles. Most people just consider this a somewhat expensive PR stunt from Ford to gain some limelight as people (like us) discuss the car and talk about its features and how viable it is. In that sense the car is already paying for itself. Car manufacturers are constantly pushing the limits further and further for media attention- This is to help offset advertising costs. We live in a world of overstimulation where everyone is battling for your attention and regular ads are less and less appealing. Enter a car like the Ford Mindfulness to shake up the playing field.

The VW Golf is almost universally loved as a car. It offers a great blend of practicality, fun, speed and handling. The Gold also has a very large range of options and sub models within it. You’d be hard to pressed to browse the expansive library Golfs and not find at least one that caters to what you like. Often a popular car for many enthusiasts as the car serves as a great base for further modifications and tuning.

The Ford Fiesta has constantly been in the top best selling cars. In fact it was the best selling car in 2019 and 2020. The fiesta is very close to number one on the list here and they may trade places a few times throughout the end of 2021. Regardless of which car ends up on top, the Fiesta is constantly praised for having such great handling, drive and practicality.

As mentioned in the Fiesta Segment, spot one and two are up for debate currently by the end of the year. Corsa has an excellent achievement on their hands with the new Corsa. It’s had a total facelift and looks better than ever before. It offers multiple different packages and options, including fully electric options. With all this in mind then it’s no surprise to see the Corsa challenge the Fiesta for the number one spot.

The Mazda MX5 is the best selling sports car in history (apart from one other car, who we’ll meet later) selling over 1,000,000 units since the company was launched in 1989. It’s hard to not love this car, it offers rear wheel drive in a light car that comes with a drop top roof, everything you need to get that feel good sensation when driving.

The Golf and its variations such as GTI are excellent cars and loved by many. The main appeal of the Golf series is that it’s an excellent everyone car. Us petrolheads love cars for many different reasons, be it speed, practicality, looks, handling and so on. Well the Golf has everyone covered, it may not be the fastest, prettiest, …etc but its plenty fast and plenty pretty, it outperforms most average cars, the Golf lives in a limbo between daily runner and weekend fun car, making it perfect as a fun everyday runner.

3. Ford Mustang

The Ford Mustang screams power, a true American muscle car. In most cases we would have to give it to the older generation of Mustangs, whilst the newer models are still excellent vehicles, they can’t match the charm the older models had. It is a very raw experience and an emotional drive. In an attempt to keep the list somewhat diverse we settle on Fords Mustang over one of their sports cars, their muscle car lineup is equally as impressive, just be sure that you take care in the corners. These cars are notorious for making drivers look silly due to being unable to handle the extreme power from the fun car to drive.

This one might be cheating a little bit, since it’s more than just one car, but BMW didn’t earn itself the nickname of “Drivers Cars” for no reason, no it’s because they’re extremely fun to drive! BMW has something for everyone, the main contenders here would be the E36 & E46 M3, the M1 & M2, the Z3 & Z4, The BMW Turbo & the BMW 650 – 850 series. You cannot go wrong with these German engineered cars!

Remember earlier when we said you’d meet the best selling sports car? We’ve arrived. The 911 is a cult classic, it doesn’t matter what year model you buy, it doesn’t matter if you buy a couple, cabriolet, targa, turbo or GT3, you will have a smile from cheek to cheek in one of these cars. They are exceptional, staying in line with German engineering offered in the VW & BMW, but adding the feel good features from the Mazda mixed in with a feeling of relentless raw power. The Porsche is considered by many as the grandfather of sports cars but by no means are these cars outdated or irrelevant, if anything they show that a working formula doesn’t need much alteration to keep going and judging by the sales, people really like Porsche 911s.
